A suspect said to have defrauded the state by false pretense in the controversial Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Agency (GYEEDA) scandal, is likely to be sent to Nsawam prisons after failing to meet his bail conditions.
Philip Akpeena Assibit, Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill International, who is currently in police custody at the Ministries Police Station, is one of two suspects, the other being Abuga Pele, National Coordinator of the GYEEDA standing trial for alleged financial misappropriation.
The two are facing 19 counts including willfully causing financial loss to the state, intentionally causing loss to property and abetment of crime.
Assibit is mentioned specifically as having defrauded the state to the tune of 4,165,568.53 by making claims and receiving payments for services he never rendered.
The two were given a bail condition of four sureties, two of which to be justified.
It appears however that Assibit is unable to meet his bail condition and is likely to be moved to the Nsawam prisons from the Ministries Police Station where he had been detained for eight days.
One of his lawyers Joseph Kpenka told Joy News they are yet to meet all the bail conditions.
According to him, they were able to supply all the necessary documentations needed for the bail to be granted but the trial judge refused to accept some of them.
He said they are still yet to provide one of the documentations needed for their client to be granted bail and confirmed Assibit is being processed to be detained at the Nsawam prisons.
The two suspects will appear in court on March 4, 2014 which is the next adjourned date.
