Some heads of Senior High Schools have expressed worry at the huge number of students who have qualified for admissions this year, saying they may cause accommodation problems. The Ghana Education Service said 375,258 candidates representing 99.6 percent of pupils that sat the 2012 Basic Education Certificate Examination qualified for admissions into Senior High Schools.Although some senior high schools are yet to receive the list of students posted to their schools, some headteachers are worried about the likely accommodation problems they may encounter.Joy News’ Beatrice Adu visited some schools in Greater Accra including Accra Girls, Accra High and Achimota, and reports that most schools have threatened to downsize the number of intake. But Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service Parker Allotey told Joy News they do not envisage much problem so far us accommodation is concerned. He explained that a number of structures have been put up in various schools to absorb the numbers, adding that the numbers being posted to the various schools “have not changed drastically. They are hovering around an average of 400 per a school; that is the intake for the first year.”He said the posting list has been sent to the various regions, and has therefore asked schools to contact their respective regional coordinators for the list.
