Legendary Guitarist Ackah Blay says that highlife music is not going down.

He made this assertion in an interview with Andy Dosty on the Daybreak Hitz Show after he was asked on how feels any time he hears people saying highlife music is going down or not performing well these days.

In responding to the question, the "Taking Away" crooner said he thinks Highlife music is not going down but he rather sees it as a tree with many branches with Highlife as its root so to him one leaf grows from the tree and falls and another comes and falls but the root which to him is Highlife is always firm and strong.

"I think Highlife music is not going down. I see it as a tree with branches and leaves and Highlife is the root always then the other one comes like the leaves and branches they fall and another one comes and they fall but the root, the tree itself is firm", he said.

He went further to say that the failure on the part of musicians who do Highlife music to see themselves as Highlife musicians has made it difficult for Highlife Music to be appreciated. He also blamed industry players for not being able to promote Highlife  something he believes has paved the way for Nigerian Musicians as well as other nationals to see Highlife as theirs but to him Highlife is the only genre we have got as Ghanaians.

"It is unfortunate that most of the guys who are doing Highlife don't call themselves Highlife Musicians meanwhile they are doing Highlife music. Hjghlife is the only thing Ghana has. It is unfortunate that the industry is not so strong to promote Highlife or in other words the industry players don't know what to  do with Highlife so you see most Nationals like Nigerians and other African Nationals say Highlife is theirs but Highlife is for Ghana, he stressed.

He concluded by saying that to him Highlife Music is not dying but it is rather the failure of artistes to see themselves as Highlife Musicians who are doing Highlife Music.

…"So Highlife music is not dying off but it is unfortunate most of the guys who are doing Highlife don't call themselves Highlife Musicians and they don't call their music Highlife meanwhile they are playing Highlife. Very unfortunate", he said.
