The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has donated assorted food items to the Headquarters of the Ghana Prisons Service in support of the feeding of inmates in the Ramadan season.
The items donated on behalf of the philanthropist and businessman Ibrahim Mahama include 1000 bags of rice, 417 boxes of sunflower cooking oil, 200 boxes of tomato paste and 200 boxes of canned mackerel.

The gesture forms part of the Minister’s efforts to support and equip the Ghana Prisons Service and make it very attractive and efficient.
Mr Muntaka said he reached out to Mr Mahama to support prison inmates during this Ramadan period and his request was granted, hence the donation of the items.

The Minister, reiterating his promise to support the Prisons Service, said he would be making a presentation of 15 pick-up vehicles to the Service out of a total of 50 pick-up vehicles that would be distributed by the Interior Ministry in due time.
Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), acknowledged the Minister’s willingness to support the Service.

She expressed gratitude for the opportunity given her to serve as the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service.
The Director-General explained to the Minister the need for all officers to receive the contagious allowance and pleaded with him to facilitate the restoration of some operational allowances to officers.

Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie hinted on some strategic innovations that would support the vision of the Minister in making the Prison Service an enviable institution in Ghana.
She assured the Minister of the preparedness and readiness of the Prisons Administration and staff to support his vision and work assiduously to achieve the mandate of the Service and offer it global recognition.

The donated items would be presented to selected Prison facilities, including Nsawam Medium Security, the Ankaful complex, Koforidua Local, Tamale Central, Sunyani Central, Amanfrom Camp and Manhyia local Prisons.
