The Kaneshie District Court One has sentenced Gideon Kojo Elliam, 37, to six months in hard labour for defrauding an auto mechanic of GH¢53,000.
Elliam took the money from Mr. Daniel Odoi Otu, the complainant, under the pretext of supplying him with an auto diagnostic machine, but failed to do so.
He admitted the charge and was sentenced accordingly.
Elliam confessed to taking GH¢37,000 but disputed the complainant’s claim of GH¢53,000.
The Court advised Otu to pursue civil action against Elliam to recover the money after the sentence is served.
Police Chief Inspector Achana Apeweh told the Court that Otu, an auto mechanic living at Kasoa Nyayano, gave Elliam, an IT technician from Takoradi, GH¢53,000 in May 2023 to purchase the auto diagnostic machine.
Elliam promised to deliver it by December 2023 but failed, and all attempts by Otu to contact him proved futile.
Chief Inspector Apeweh stated that Elliam was arrested at his hideout on April 1, 2025.
During investigations, he confessed to using the money for personal purposes.
Following the investigation, Elliam was charged and brought before the Court.
