The Board Chairman of Real Tamale United (RTU), Lepowura Alhaji Mohammed Nuru Deen Jawula, has stated that he would be compelled to resign if current efforts at resolving the misunderstanding between a section of the supporters and management of the club failed to yield the desired results."I have considered resigning from the board if the problem gets out of hand; I would not want to be associated with failures, neither do I want to be part of controversies; I am a traditional ruler and I have an integrity to protect," he stressed.Alhaji Jawula said this in Tamale during an interaction with media practitioners following a meeting with the various stakeholders of the club to drum home the need for unity among the playing body, management and supporters of RTU.The club is still licking its wounds as the various premier division teams are seriously preparing themselves to face the challenges that this year's league would pose to them.At the end of the 2006/2007 league season, the team was almost relegated from the elite division for the first time after 29 years in the premiership.Alhaji Jawula entreated the factions among supporters of RTU to bury their differences in order not to ruin the fortunes of the club."RTU is one body and if one part is not functioning well it affects the whole body. I want to appeal to everybody to remain calm and exercise restraint because the next league season promises to be more challenging and we cannot afford to be left behind," he further stated.According to him, a series of meetings were being held in Accra and Tamale all in a bid to promote peace within the rank and file of the club to enhance their fortunes.Alhaji Jawula equally assured supporters of the club that he would be impartial in resolving the current crisis.Touching on sponsorship for RTU, the chairman called on the media to avoid giving negative publicity on the activities of sponsors and stop "dragging them into controversies. I can assure you that the sponsorship position of the club is not shaky."He indicated that the constitution of the club would be critically looked at after the current crisis had been resolved."Some people think RTU performed badly last season but on the contrary the club performed creditably. At least, we were able to beat Kotoko and drew on two occasions with Ashantigold," he noted.Source: Graphic Sports
