The Vice President’s spokesperson, John Jinapor, has apologized for some comments considered disparaging which he made in reference to Ms Ursula Owusu, Vice President of FIDA International on Metro TV a few weeks ago.
Mr Jinapor indirectly referred to Ursula as a slut on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme in response to her comments that some government appointees had built houses six months upon assumption of office of the NDC government.
The Vice President’s spokesperson, who didn't take Ursula's statements kindly, insinuated that Ursula herself was believed to have prostituted for her own luxurious house.
The FIDA International Vice-President took offence of Jinapor's comments but Mr Jinapor refused to retract the comments, stating that he did not mention Ursula’s name and that “who the cup fits, wears it”.
However, speaking on the same programme Tuesday, a more sober Jinapor apologised to viewers of the programme, promising that what happened would not be repeated.
“Looking back, I deem it fit to tell the viewers, especially [those] who watched that programme on that day that I am sorry if they felt offended by any comment or any action here…” he stated.
Mr Jinapor added that “we believe that we will make amends as we move on.”
Commenting on the issue, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, Member of Parliament for Manhyia, a co-panelist on the programme, commended the vice president’s spokesperson for humbly admitting his mistake and apologising.
He, however, cautioned all “those who have the privilege to come on-air not to denigrate themselves into that gutter,” reminding all government officials to bear in mind that whatever they say or do would unnecessarily be attributed to the government.
Dr Opoku-Prempeh added that such attitudes do not only disgrace the TV programme but are also not good for the governance of the country.
