The Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, has asked assembly members and people in the area to bury their political differences and to gear their efforts towards the development of the area.
She pointed out that despite their political affiliations, Jomoro must have a common development agenda.
Ms Nkrumah identified challenges confronting the mu¬nicipality as poor school infrastructure, health facilities, road network, water sanitation, environment and mass un-employment, as begging for solutions.
She was addressing a special assembly meeting organised by the Jomoro assembly to introduce her, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Presiding Member to assembly members and heads of department at Half-Assin.
The enormity of the challenges are daunting, she noted but said it was against this back-drop that "we have been chosen amongst our people to represent them and help bring relief to their plight.”
Samia Nkrumah hoped that with the assemblage of talents, the task ahead is not insurmountable, stating that the Jomoro municipality is strategically placed with enormous potentials to kick-start the local economy from eco-tourism, fertile lands, many mineral resources of limestone, gold, oil and gas, all year round and water bodies begging to be exploited.
"We only have to marshal all the human resources and God-given talents to the municipality," Samia Nkrumah advised.
The MP therefore urged assembly members, chiefs, civil society groups and every citizen living in and outside the municipality to contribute their quota positively to the development agenda of the municipality.
On his part, the MCE, Mr. Victor Nyianyi Kablan, called on assembly members, heads of departments and agencies in the municipality to avoid ethnicity, gender, political and all other acts and behaviours that are likely to hamper the development of the municipality.
He reminded them that as assembly members they must be guided by the fact that people would judge them by their ability to address the challenges facing the municipality.
He hoped that with the support and co-operation of the assembly members the expectations of the people would be met.
The MCE disclosed that a new bus would be bought for the assembly apart from internet connectivity which will later be extended to the Half-Assini government hospital, schools and other businesses in the municipality on commercial purposes.
The meeting chaired by Mr. Francis Ehwie Armah, Presiding Member, later formed the various sub-committees for the assembly.
