Residents and motorists who ply the Lekma road in the Greater Accra Region are excited as construction work on the stretch is done.
The icing on the cake is the expansion works which have begun on the Tsui Bleoo stretch of the roads.
The #JoyInYourCommunity team had a smooth ride on the roads as they journeyed through the Lekma Community for an update on the condition of poor roads in the community.
Contrary to reports from last year, residents now testify that, the roads have been fixed as promised.
The situation was quite different about a year. A ride through the community exposed commuters to dusty and bumpy roads which made it very difficult to ply the route.
Residents kept lamenting over the poor condition.
However, a year on, residents are lauding the sitting MP for the improvement on the roads.
A trader in the community who identified himself as George Ahenkorah commended works on the road, however, he also implored engineers to fix remaining glitches as to prevent future casualties.
"The road engineers have also began works on a one lane [road] from the Lekma roundaboubt to Tsui Bleoo. We are hoping they complete that as well," he added.
Joy News earlier reported that work is continuing on the dusty 7.5 kilometres Lekma stretch of the Ledzokuku-Krowor constituency as Joy News’ campaign to get it fixed gathers momentum.
This followed complains from residents about the poor condition of the Lekma hospital road.
The road was okay, but some 10 miles to the hospital, commuters struggled with dilapidated and pothole-ridden roads which cost some women their pregnancies while plying the road.
However, after the JoyNews' report, construction works began on the roads.
During a visit to the community construction equipment were on site working to finish the road as the Roads Minister has promised.
Residents told the reporter although they are happy they cannot wait for the work to finish.
“They should speed up the work,” one resident said.
Update on Lekma road
The roads have now been completed with the exception of the feeder roads going into the communities.
The road from the hospital to Tsui Bleeo is being expanded as well.
Although traffic congestion on the road has reduced following the development, residents lamented that frequent accidents to remain a problem for them.
They, therefore, are asking for a traffic light at the hospital junction to curb the trend.
