For his exceptional dedication, skill, and leadership, Jefferson Kwasi Agbotro, a 2023 JoyNews Impact Makers awardee in Health and Volunteerism, has been named Best Nurse for the Sunyani East District in Ghana’s Bono Region.
With over a decade of experience in both private and public healthcare, his contributions continue to leave an indelible mark on the profession.
Beyond his clinical expertise, Jefferson is a mentor, leader, and advocate. He has mentored over 500 nurses and midwives, shaping the next generation of healthcare professionals. As a facilitator for various healthcare organizations, his work spans multiple critical areas, including outpatient care, accident and emergency services, and general theatre care.
His influence extends beyond hospitals. As the Founder and Chief Executive Director of Friends of Health Foundation (FOHA), Jefferson leads community health initiatives that provide free health screenings, livelihood support, and HIV/AIDS interventions to over 20,000 people across Ghana. His unwavering commitment to both healthcare and community service solidifies his status as a true change-maker.

Jefferson’s selection as Best Nurse for Sunyani East District followed a rigorous evaluation process that assessed his patient care, interdisciplinary impact, and dedication to the profession.
His efforts were previously recognized in 2023 when he was honored as a JoyNews Impact Maker in Health and Volunteerism and appointed as the Dean of the JoyNews Impact Makers Awardees Network Ghana.
Jefferson’s academic credentials reflect his pursuit of excellence. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Organizational Development, and is a certified Organizational Development Consultant and Chartered Management Consultant.
Despite these achievements, he remains committed to growth, now setting his sights on regional and national recognition as Ghana’s Best Nurse 2025.
