The Rotary Club of Sunyani East continues to fill in the gaps with the provision of educational infrastructure and support for schools in the Sunyani East Municipality.
The Club, in a bid to improve water and sanitation in schools, has handed over 24-unit micro flush toilets to three schools in the municipality.
At the Nwawasua Municipal Assembly (M/A) Basic School, the Club, with funding support from Rotary Foundation Global Grant, GG2122481, constructed 12-unit micro flush latrines and water extension with storage tank and a 6-unit refurbished micro flush latrine with mechanized hand pump with storage tank at Korasua No.1 M/A Basic School.
Also, a 6-unit micro flush latrine and water extension with a storage tank have been constructed for the Stadium Basic School in Sunyani.
The latrines are expected to benefit over 1,000 students and their teachers.
Micro flush toilets are said to be a convenient facility used with less water, with the waste capable of being used, after some time, as manure.

Emmanuel Taa-Amoako, President, Sunyani East Rotary Club
At separate handing over ceremonies in the schools, the Sunyani East Rotarian President, Emmanuel Taa-Amoako, said the projects have come to fruition thanks to the efforts of Rotarians, led by the immediate past president, Rotarian Veronica Ama Yeboah, who has created a lot of hope for the schools.
“It will go a long way to ease the sanitation stress of the three schools”, RP Taa-Amoako said with the hope of doing more soon “with the support of Rotarians to create hope in the world for all schools and make Ghana a wonderful place for our future leaders.”
It remains our greatest joy as a club to ensure that we keep all these facilities well maintained so that generations upon generation will benefit from them”, he emphasized.

Ansu Kumi, Sunyani East MCE
Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive, Ansu Kumi expressed the government’s gratitude to the club for their continuous support to the communities, especially in the areas of education and health.
He admits the government has the responsibility to provide all this support but said it cannot be done alone by the government, hence, they “appreciate nonprofit groups like Rotary for filling the gaps in helping to achieve clean water and sanitation under the Sustainable Development Goals.”
He expects the support to aid teaching and learning in the schools.
Assistant Headmaster of Nwawasua M/A Basic School, Felix Owusu-Ansah, like the other school heads, thanked the Club for coming to their aid and appealed for continuous support with infrastructure and other teaching and learning materials.
Community members were asked to stay off the toilet facilities since it is only meant for the use of the students to enhance sanitation in the schools.

The Club also trained some individuals in the project communities, including teachers, on the maintenance of the projects.
In June 2023, the club handed over a security fence on about 5 acres of land to ward off encroachers, and about 20 computers and accessories to enhance the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology for Nwawasua M/A Basic School with a call to continue providing selfless services to the communities.
