Two armed robbers have been shot and killed after engaging in a shoot-out with the Police at Kaneshie in Accra.
In a press release, the Accra Regional Police Command said they received information that a group of armed robbers were monitoring the cashier of the Renault/Hyundai car company located at Atico Junction along Kaneshie-Odorkor highway.
The robbers were waiting patiently to rob the salesperson off her daily company sales.
After receiving the tip-off, the police stationed some of its personnel close to the company so they could intervene if the robbers made a move.
“At about 5:30 pm, when the cashier came out with the daily sales of the Renault section of the company to hand over same to the Hyundai department of the company, the robbers rushed and pulled out a pistol on her and robbed her of the handbag containing the company's sales money.”
The police team which had been stationed next to the scene moved in and intervened. However, the robbers sensing danger engaged the police in a shoot out.
“In the process, two of the robbers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the police hospital for treatment, but the doctor on duty pronounced them dead on arrival. The others managed to escape,” the statement read.
One of the deceased was later identified as 24-year-old Bright Nyarko who once worked for the company. The other is yet to be identified.
The two bodies have been deposited at Police Hospital Morgue for preservation, identification and autopsy.
The police retrieved one Automatic pistol with 5 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and the victim's bag containing an amount of GH¢3,650.00 from the robbers.
