The Public Relations Officer of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kwame Baah Nuako has spiked rumours that Kotoko will sue Abanga for deception after the defender signed for Accra Hearts of Oak over the weekend.
Abanga entered into a personal agreement with Kotoko assuring the Porcupine Warriors that he would choose them over archrivals Hearts of Oak.
But after several twists of Abanga's mind and a few other legal issues, the player has landed in the camp of the Phobians.
Sensing that Kotoko's ¢150 million or 15,000 GH Cedis could be money Iost to the wind, Edmund Ackah the vice president of the fans’ group said Kotoko would sue Abanga for deception. They contend that Abanga gave them a written agreement to play for Kotoko upon which he was paid the money.
For Abanga to turn his back on the Fabulous lads therefore constitutes deception.
But Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer says management does not know anything about the court action of the fans.
"Management has not taken such a decision, I am surprised at these comments myself”. Baah Nuako told All Sports.
Baah Nuako says it was true they had dealings with Abanga but has left it at that and management are due for an emergency meeting in Kumasi in the coming days to take a firm decision on how to retrieve their money or otherwise.
The fans however have taken their decision; "Abanga took our money and he deserves to payback, we should not allow him to take us for a ride" a Kotoko fan said on radio.
It is the second time Kotoko has been deceived by players who flirted with them only to leave for Hearts of Oak.
The most significant player before Abanga was Benard Don Bortey in 2001. Don went to Kumasi and gave assurances on radio that he would only play for Kotoko. When he returned to Accra, he changed his mind and pitted camp with Hearts of Oak.
Not since Don Bortey has a teenager generated such controversy among the two teams.
Though Abanga has been sold off to Hearts, it seems the issues surrounding the most protracted transfer in the off season will not die down yet.
