The Board of Governors and the Administration of Tweneboa Kodua Senior High School at Kumawu in the Ashanti region have named a dormitory after former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, for his commitment towards people and community development.
Dr. Duffuor’s passion and commitment to supporting education was again manifested, when he single-handedly sponsored the renovation of the dormitory, which has now been named the ‘Kwabena Duffuor House’.
Speaking at the handing-over ceremony at Kumawu, his town of birth, Dr. Duffuor emphasised that his continuous support for education is because of the positive impact it creates in the lives of people.
“Throughout my life I have been passionate and committed to supporting education in many ways so as to make significant impact on the lives of our people. It is in view of this that when the request was made to me to consider renovating the block now named after me, I did not hesitate to support the cause”.
He further noted that though it is said that education is a right, "that right is meaningless if you are unable to pursue it and make use of it for your benefit and to the benefit of the entire society".
He challenged the students to make good use of the opportunities they are getting while in school.
“If you cast your mind back to some of your colleagues who could not pursue their education due either to financial constraints, poor academic performance, or simply due to lack of access, then you have to appreciate how lucky you have been”.
The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana admonished the students to make their learning a priority since it is the surest way to prosperity. He urged them to do their best and God will see them through to higher heights.
In other related developments, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, who is also the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of HODA Holdings Limited, further to his passion and efforts in community development, has renovated the midwives and physicians quarters of the Kumawu medical centre.
Dr. Duffuor made a donation of various items including beds, mattresses and pillows to the centre.
HODA Holdings is the parent company of over a dozen business enterprises including Star Assurance Company Limited, StarLife Assurance Company Limited, uniBank Ghana Limited, uniCredit Savings & Loans Limited etc.
Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, the Board Chairman of Kumawuman Rural Bank also commissioned a new ultra-modern head office of the Bank in Kumawu.
