The East-Akyem District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Victor Asihene, has urged leaders in the society to help the youth to be self-reliant.
He said it was the only way through which the youth could utilize their talents to improve upon the legacy that the forefathers left for them after toiling for the independence of the country.
Mr Asihene was addressing a thanksgiving service as part of the 50th independence anniversary celebration in the district at the Kyebi Ebenezer Presbyterian Church on Sunday.
He said Dr J.B Danquah and Mr William Ofori-Atta discovered their potentials as freedom fighters in their youthful years and worked towards that to achieve the great legacy they had left behind.
He said the successful anniversary parade throughout the country and the massive participation of the citizenry was the work of God and every Ghanaian must be grateful for that.
The Kyebi District Pastor of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Kwame Nuamah, called on parents and guardian to train their children in the spirit of love.
He said despite the fact that government was in charge of all schools including the mission ones the Presbyterian training should not be relegated to the background.
"Once a child attends Presbyterian school, he must learn the doctrine of the Presbyterian church."
Later, the Okyehemaa, Nana Dokua Adutwumwaa and the Adontehene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Nana Kena Ampaw and other dignitaries laid wreaths on the graves of Dr J. B Danquah and Mr William Ofori-Atta.
