At the Carl Reindorf Stadium at Dansoman in Accra, Liberty Professionals maintained their unbeaten home run by beating struggling Great Olympics 3-1 in their week 18 clash of the Onetouch Premier League on Sunday.
Liberty scored first on 33 minutes through Kofi Nti Boakye, who finished off a three-man move initiated by Ashmond Asamoah and complemented by Emmanuel Osei.
Olympics, who had the better of the exchanges in the second half equalised through Ahmed Zakari on 53 minutes, slotting home from close range after being fed by substitute Labaran Deen, whose introduction aided the Wonder lads’ cause.
Labaran, who replaced Abdul Basit in the second half created some anxious moments for the Liberty rearguard, who had to either foul him or clear the lines whenever he attacked.
This saw Olympics make several incursions into the Liberty half, a major improvement on their first half performance, where they created only a handful of chances.
In the 63rd minute, Labaran was unfortunate to see his shot from a goal mouth action hit the upright, with the Liberty goalie, Patrick Antwi completely beaten.
Liberty, who dominated in the first half doubled their lead a minute later through Asamoah when he tucked in a rebound after Bawa Mumuni’s powerful shot from a free-kick had grazed the cross bar.
Kofi Nti Boakye wasted several opportunities to consolidate his side’s lead before Antwi sealed victory with an easy tap in, three minutes from time.
The Liberty striker capitalized on a misunderstanding between Olympics’ goalkeeper Alex Agyepong and central defender Francis Boadi to announce game over to the visitors with the scores at 3-1.Source: GNA
