Ghana’s High commissioner in the UK, Professor Kweku Danso-Boafo has urged Ghana’s representatives at the Olympic Games to focus and make the country proud by hauling medals at the multi sports event.
The commissioner received the contingent at his residence on Thursday to formally inform the team of the death of the president ahead of the opening ceremony on Friday.
The team is due to be in an all black apparel instead of the usual Kente to mourn the President at the opening ceremony in Stratford where the Olympic Stadium is located. But Professor Kweku Danso-Boafo believes the sportsmen will deliver despite the death.
“My few words to our nine athletes, although we participating in the games with a heavy heart let us do it with the sense of commitment and dedication to the ideals of excellence Sportsmanship and national pride, knowing the eyes of the entire nation of Ghana are on you and that you carrying the hopes of millions of Ghanaians on your shoulders as you participate in your respective events”. he told Joy Sports
Meanwhile the opening ceremony starts at 21:00 BST and at the 60,000 capacity Olympic stadium
