President John Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a new airport at Nsoatre, marking a major infrastructure milestone for the Bono Region.
The project, announced during his Resetting Ghana Tour, is expected to replace the existing Sunyani Airport, whose current runway length limits its operational capacity.

President Mahama explained that the existing airport’s 1.5-kilometre runway cannot accommodate larger aircraft, while surrounding developments have made any expansion impractical.
To address this constraint, the government has secured a new site with the support of traditional authorities, paving the way for the construction of a modern facility.

According to him, the new airport will feature a 2.4-kilometre runway, enabling it to handle bigger aircraft and significantly improve air connectivity to the region.
The President said the project forms part of broader efforts to enhance transport infrastructure, boost regional economic activity, and position the Bono Region as a key hub for trade and investment.
