The committee set up to investigate the November 18 fire outbreak at the Makola Number Two Market has presented its report to the chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Security Council, Nii Armah Ashietey in Accra.
The five-member committee, chaired by the Greater Accra Regional Fire Officer, Superintendent Frank Adufati, was set up after a directive by President John Mills to have a report on the fire outbreak.
Supt Adufati disclosed that they could not determine the immediate cause of the fire, however, he said with their investigations into the remote causes of the fire outbreak, they came out with frequent fire outages, negligent use of power and use of undersized cables.
He also mentioned that it was established that the response by the Fire Service to the market was swift and added that the fire affected 920 facilities and 650 victims.
Mr. Adufati said as part of recommendations, fire wardens are to be formed and trained by the Fire Service and in addition, functioning fire hydrants stationed at vantage points at the market.
