A 26-year-old drinking bar operator in Kumasi has succeeded in hanging himself, having failed in two previous attempts.
Prosper Karikari, the fifth in a family of six is said to have persistently threatened his parents with suicide for no apparent reason.
His body was found in the early hours of today hanging on a ceiling fan at a drinking bar at Daaban-Apraman.
A large crowd of curious residents who could not believe news of the suicide wondered what may have influenced the deceased to such an end.
He was the proud owner of the drinking bar he operated, Thunder Pub, a rather popular spot in the area set up for him by his parents.
Prosper earlier this year attempted to kill himself on two occasions but failed. The second incident occurred forty days ago.
Police at Ridge reportedly arrested him but they never prosecuted him.
Prosper’s father, Nana Karikari Boamah told Nhyira FM's Ohemeng Tawiah that he picked a quarrel with the deceased for assaulting a girl for no apparent reason.
He least expected that could trigger a suicide attempt.
He said he realized Prosper did not sleep in his room last night, only for him to discover the body hanging on a nylon rope at the drinking bar attached to their house this morning.
Nana Boamah, who is also a sub-chief (Krontihene) of Kumawu-Pepease, believes his son was destined to die by suicide.
Meanwhile, the body has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Mortuary pending police investigations.
