The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has argued that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) should not investigate claims directed at itself.
Speaking on the ongoing allegations raised by private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu, the MP warned that allowing the OSP to handle the matter could compromise fairness and potentially deny justice to the complainant.
He emphasised that the office investigating claims against itself creates a conflict of interest.
“To resolve those allegations certainly will not be the office of the OSP,” he said. “And tactically, it's even not good because presenting that evidence to him… by submitting yourself to him, you are submitting it to his jurisdiction; you are agreeing that he should resolve those matters.”
He warned that the outcome could easily favour the OSP.
“What if, at the end of the day, he rubbishes every allegation you have made? You wouldn't have gotten justice,” he added.
The MP’s comments come after the Office of the Special Prosecutor invited Martin Kpebu on Wednesday to submit evidence to support his public allegations of corruption and incompetence against the institution.
The OSP says the invitation is part of due process to establish the facts behind the claims.
