A youth activist of the NPP in Kumasi, Mr. Richard Mensah Ofori Attah, has lambasted agents of the government of President Mills for concentrating on trivial issues by snatching vehicles and seizing toilets to the detriment of the nation's economy. According to him, the NDC government failed to tackle the ailing economy but is rather spending its time witch-hunting and harassing members of the past administration. "President Mills and the NDC government have failed to arrest the escalating dollar against the nation's cedi, but they have spent their time snatching cars and seizing toilets," he noted. The NPP youth activist's comments come in the wake of the recent ultimatum issued by the government to former President Kufuor to return the three BMW cars which were in his possession, a development which has worsened the already not too good relationship between the government and members of the former administration. But Ofori Attah believes that the government is missing the priorities of the average Ghanaian, which is to ensure the pragmatic management of both the micro and macro aspects of the economy in order to create the enabling environment for business. Speaking to The Chronicle in an interview, the vociferous NPP activist noted that Ghanaians are very much concerned with the increasing depreciation of the country's cedi against the dollar and other foreign currencies. He warned that Ghanaians would not forgive the government of the NDC if they fail to manage the economy and sustain the modest successes chalked under the government of former President Kufuor. The dollar, which hitherto was trailing the local currency by some pesewas, has seen an appreciable increase within the past 60 days against the cedi, with a dollar going for 1.40Gp. Fears are that the dollar could reach an all-time record high of GH¢2 if the government does not put adequate measures in place to check the unfavourable economic situation currently prevailing in the country. Raising doubts and suspicions about the government's ability to tackle the economic situation, Ofori Attah said the government had misplaced its priorities and had lost focus of what it was expected to do to alleviate the pain and the suffering of the average Ghanaian.
