Deputy Minister of Finance is elated they were able to “embarrass and expose” the vile propaganda of the Minority in Parliament.
Abena Osei Asare said the Minority's claim that government was about to increase VAT was borne out of political vendetta.
“The Minority goofed and I’m happy we were able to embarrass them in Parliament,” she stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Thursday.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had stirred up Ghanaians to expect a possible increase in taxes especially VAT.
This got social media boiled in anticipation of the announcement which would have set the Akufo-Addo led government on fire.
Many, especially civil society groups, were lacing their boots to hit the streets if Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta had announced any increase in VAT.
But hearts were cooled when the Finance Minister announced there will be no increase in VAT.
But speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme, Abena Osei Asare said the Minority now appear hypnotised after the announcement.
She could not fathom why being in opposition for just one and half years, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is working assiduously to paint the Akufo-Addo administration black.
Abena Osei Asare who is also the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East noted that, the NDC has no moral right to criticize them over taxes.
The deputy Finance Minister cited how the NDC under former President John Mahama taxed condoms and farm implements to buttress her point.
She added that, the NPP and Akufo-Addo administration should be judged at the end of the four year term given them by Ghanaians.
