The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) says it is battle ready to fight off dangers that usually accompany the spillage of Burkina Faso’ Bagre Dam.
Burkinabe authorities are likely to open the spillways of the Dam on August 10.
The opening of the Dam has over the years caused a lot of havoc in towns around the White and Black Volta Basins.
On Wednesday the Upper East Regional Security Council asked people likely to be affected to relocate to higher grounds.
However, NADMO has released a statement promising to swiftly deal with any dangers the floods might cause. It has directed all its officers in the region to begin safety education.
NADMO Co-ordinator, Kofi Portuphy told Joy News; “We have identified all our citizens who live along the channels of all the rivers and streams in this country particularly those vulnerable… who are likely to be impacted upon and we are in daily contact with them.”
Mr Portuphy said since the extent of damage is not predictable, a joint NADMO/48 Engineer Regiment rescue team is also on standby to move to the north in the event of serious flooding.
Meanwhile Ghana’s Ambassador to Burkina Faso has been directed to monitor the opening of the spillways of the Dam.
