The camp of the former Presidential Candidate for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo is bubbling with confidence and optimism ahead of the party's epic presidential primary next month.
With the campaign of the various candidates gradually, entering the home-stretch, the campaign team of Nana Akufo-Addo has pledged an empathic hundred percent victory for the aspirants in the Ashanti Region. The Regional campaign team says it will sweep all the 39 constituencies in the Ashanti Region, come August 7, 2010.
Speaking to The Chronicle in an interview last Saturday, a leading member of the campaign team, Patrick K. Acheampong said everything was set for Nana Addo's resounding victory in the stronghold of the NPP. He said his predictions stem from the exhaustive campaign embarked upon by the team and the response from the delegates in the region.
According to him, Nana Addo's campaign message has gone down well with the delegates, stressing - "the delegates have declared their intention to ensure consistency and to give Nana Addo the second chance to lead the party to victory."
Patrick Acheampong noted that the team conducted the campaign based on seven strong messages which he said have clearly been understood by the delegates.
Enumerating the campaign messages to this reporter, Acheampong said Nana Addo's message centered on his contribution to giving voting rights to polling station executives, his demonstration of love for unity within the party, his marketability and his trustworthiness as a genuine and committed member of the party.
He further touched on the fact that Nana Addo, despite being a former presidential candidate, is also the most politically-experienced amongst all the contenders and possesses the requisite leadership skill to lead the NPP.
Acheampong further indicated that Nana Addo has promised to empower foot soldiers and grassroot supporters, something he demonstrated through his relentless efforts at ensuring the expansion of the Electoral College.
He contended that the party will be saved the trouble of having start from the scratch to market a new candidate, stressing "electing a new candidate means that the party will have to spend much on new billboards, T-shirts and other paraphernalia whereas Nana Addo will not need all that since these resources are already available."
Patrick Acheampong, who is also the former Assistant Regional Secretary of the party said throughout their campaign, people have warned that they wouldn’t go to the polls to cast their ballots if the party fails to retain Nana Akufo Addo.
According to him, voters believe Nana Addo is already a popular figure within the party and the entire country who deserves another drama adding "many supporters of the party have even threatened to deal ruthlessly with their delegates if they fail to vote for Nana Addo".
