The National Film Authority (NFA) has inaugurated the Film Classification Committee (FCC).
The Committee will be responsible for benchmarking the categorisation, classification, standardisation, and preview of film content intended for viewership.
An astute filmmaker, Socrate Sarfo would head the newly inaugurated 12-member Committee.
There are other members including a representative each from the Information Services Department, National Commission of Culture, National Film and Television Institute, Copyright Office, Film Producers Association, Traditional Religious Association, Christian Council, Gender Ministry among others.
Barbara Oteng Gyasi, the Tourism Minister in her speech said she believed in the professional competence of members selected.
She was hopeful that the outcome of their works would resonate with the hopes and aspirations of the Ghanaian people and our culture.
“I am confident that this process would open a chapter in the development of Ghana’s film industry.
"Film making is an act with a universal communication power and has a transformational impact on the human mind as they portray and influence society
“The work of the classification committee would ensure that the impact of culture, economic, historical, political and technological dimensions would change the narratives of film making in Ghana thus enhancing quality and classification of film to protect viewers in the best of the country,” she said.
On his part, Mr Sarfo expressed his appreciation for the appointment and promise to deliver on their mandate despite the challenges anticipated.
"It was very important for us to protect our identity as Ghanaians so that the acts of future generation were not informed by outside culture something he deems very challenging in the modern era," he said.
Chairman of the National Film Authority (NFA), David Dontoh who was present at the inauguration rallied support and cooperation with the newly inaugurated film body so as to make their work easy.
