The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has acknowledged that Ghana is not yet fully prepared for the upcoming FIFA World Cup but insists that critical systems have been established to ensure the country is ready when the football mundial kicks off.
According to him, preparations are ongoing and extend beyond the performance of the national team, the Black Stars, to include broader national engagement and promotional activities tied to the global tournament.
He emphasised that the World Cup presents an opportunity not only for football but also for showcasing Ghana on the international stage.
Mr Adams explained that government planning includes a wide range of activities aimed at maximising Ghana’s visibility during the tournament.
These include branding, tourism promotion, and other strategic engagements designed to leverage the competition's global attention.
He further disclosed that a total of $30 million has been earmarked for Ghana’s World Cup campaign, covering both team-related expenses and associated national initiatives.
Out of this amount, about $16 million has been allocated specifically for the team’s participation, including logistics such as accommodation, training, feeding, allowances, and bonuses.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, March 30, Mr Adams stated, “I can’t say we are 100% ready, but we have set systems in place that we will be ready when we have to be ready,” adding that "the World Cup goes beyond the team… there are several activations you want to do because you want to also promote the country beyond just the 90 minutes they will play.”
