The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its Covid-19 education across the Volta Region.
The Commission led by the Regional Director, Ken Kponor has targeted major markets in the region.
At the Adaklu Animal Market, the NCCE educated the traders in the populous market on the need to observe the established safety protocols in order to reduce the risk of infection.
In an interview with JoyNews, he said the situation in the market was very due to the unsanitary conditions and absence of adherence to the protocols
He noted that traders in the markets did not practice social distancing nor wear face masks as they went about their activities.
"The essence of the education by the commission is to ensure that people understand the nature of the disease and how it is still destroying nations and the need to observe the protocols like our lives depends on it," Mr Kponor said.
Mr Kponor also said that the issue of stigmatisation is one major problem the commission is working hard to disabuse the minds of the people from.
"The challenge is that even though some session of the public finds it difficult to believe the existence of the disease, some are stigmatising people suspected to have the virus a situation which is worrying," he stated.
The Regional Director was grateful to the office of the president for releasing funds and vehicles to ensure the process of education in the region is smooth.
