The Bodi District office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western North Region has engaged residents on social auditing to promote transparency and accountability in local governance.
The engagement provided a platform for the people to identify gaps in policy implementation and assess service delivery to foster shared responsibility for development.
Speaking on the theme: “Rule of law and fight against corruption”, Mr Stephen Baidoo, the Bodi District Chief Executive (DCE), stated that the Assembly had initiated a lot of ongoing projects in the various communities across the district for which some would be completed very soon.
He implored the people to protect both ongoing and completed projects in their communities to ensure they benefited both current and future generations.
“Government spends a lot in bringing those projects and it’s for our interest and well-being that those projects are there, so we should keep our eyes on them so that they can last long,” he added.
Mr Awudu Dramani Sam, the Western North Regional Director of the NCCE, said the social auditing programme was timely and relevant because corruption remained one of the greatest threats to local governance, national development, and social justice.
He stated that social auditing empowered the citizens to be active participants in the government architecture, adding that it helped the citizens to be “watchdogs” of duty bearers
“More importantly, social auditing allows citizens to track development in the community level and seek accountability from people entrusted with power,” Mr Sam said.
