The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated that the party will secure landslide victory in both the presidential and parliamentary polls on December 7 in his constituency.
For the parliamentary polls, he said a 94 per cent win would be an increment of 4.68 per cent of the 89.7 per cent votes he won in the 2020 election.
“Such massive wins will be a testament to my stewardship and accountability in office, as well as the hard work of the North Tongu constituents at large,” he said.
Addressing a large crowd of party supporters at Mepe in the Volta Region, Mr Ablakwa said, “we have made unprecedented interventions in health, education, infrastructure, social and other livelihood support over the past four years.
“These will reflect in the realisation of the targeted 94 per cent votes for both presidential and parliamentary polls,” he said at a rally after a health walk, dubbed "Victory Walk."
The walk was undertaken alongside other outreach programmes such as medical outreach and door-to-door campaigns, all of which were aimed at solidifying the base of the NDC in the constituency.
The event drew the participation of some NDC legislators including the MP for Afram Plains, Betty Crosby Mensah; the MP for Keta, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, the Ningo Prampram MP, Sam Nartey George, as well as the two sons of former President and flag bearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Ablakwa highlighted a number of plans he had initiated to uplift the socio-economic progress of the constituency to improve the living conditions of the people.
He, for instance, mentioned that he had sought the support of some embassies in Accra to get the right investors to revive the Juapong Textile Factory and the Aveyime Rice Factory.
“The revival of these factories, which will be implemented under the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, will create jobs for our teeming unemployed youth.
“These promises are well captured in the NDC manifesto and former President, Mr Mahama, is committed to their implementation,” he told the gathering.
On compensation for flood victims, the MP pledged that a future NDC government would ensure full compensation for all victims of the recent Akosombo Dam spillage.
“The victims deserve to be compensated since the disaster has left many in my constituency, who have been displaced without any shelter, struggling to rebuild their lives,” he said.
“Such massive wins will be a testament to my stewardship and accountability in office, as well as the hard work of the North Tongu constituents at large.”
