The flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has taken a swipe at members of parliament (MPs) questioning their competence and their ability to enact good laws for Ghanaians.
Dr. Nduom says he has continually sold competence but the electorates rather choose vote buying over his promise of development.
Speaking to JOYNEWS' current affairs program, The Pulse in an exclusive interview, he told Francis Abban that the Ghanaian electorate has failed to elect competent leaders to run government and parliament.
"When you go to Parliament and you hear what comes from their mouths you wonder how they convince some thousands of people to vote for them to go to parliament," Mr. Nduom wondered.
He said in the same vein when one takes a look at the performance of those in government, one wonders how the person was able to convince the electorates to vote him to the highest office of the land.
"We need to move the electorates to go beyond what they are used to and that is a challenge to people like myself. This is because when you are selling competence and I can do this, people want to see what it is that you can do," the flagbearer said.
He added that some of the electorates don't pay taxes thus there is no accountability for them so they are comfortable with every little thing they get. Others he said know they won't get anything from government so they don't have any expectation, so they paint every candidate with the same brush.
The latter he said sell their conscience to any party or candidate which gives them monies and T-shirts, which works against people like him, adding "what we are selling is our competence and ability to get things done."
When the host Francis Abban asked if the PPP flagbearer has ever taken a bribe before, he retorted, "for what purpose? I have not bee in a position where I would have to take a bribe in order to give something to somebody."
