The Interior Ministry says there is no record or report of any assassination attempt on Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, contrary to claims made by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
The Ministry, in a press statement on Monday, December 8, said its attention was drawn to information that the Special Prosecutor “has survived two assassination attempts while discharging his duties to the Republic.”
The claim was mentioned by the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research and Communications, Samuel Appiah Darko, on Newsfile on December 6, 2025.
He also said he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.
The Ministry said such allegations, if true, could undermine government’s anti-corruption efforts, and it had therefore taken up the matter “with the seriousness it deserves.”
It outlined preliminary findings on the alleged assassination attempt.
According to the Ministry, “initial contacts with Mr Kissi Agyebeng have revealed that the assassination attempts on him, as claimed, happened before this year.”
It added that “there is no record or report of such threats against his life at any police station or at any of the state security agencies in the country.”
The Interior Minister has since directed a full-scale investigation into both claims.
The Ministry said “crime does not expire” and ordered a probe into the alleged assassination attempts. It also ordered an investigation into the claim by Mr Darko that he was “handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel.”
The Ministry said it will update the public on the outcome and the actions to be taken.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting all lives and properties to ensure Ghanaians can conduct their lawful affairs without fear.
