The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has begun investigations into alleged vote buying and vote selling during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) primaries held earlier this year.
In a public notice dated February 8, 2026, the OSP said it had commenced investigations into the NPP presidential primaries conducted on January 31, 2026, as well as the NDC parliamentary primaries at Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026.
“The investigations focus on allegations of vote buying, vote selling, and the sources of funding of the alleged corrupt acts,” the OSP stated.
According to the statement, the anti-corruption body also launched a real-time investigation during the NDC primaries in Ayawaso East following reports of electoral malpractice and intimidation.
The OSP further revealed that during the NDC parliamentary primaries, one of the candidates, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, allegedly abetted some individuals to physically attack an officer of the Office who was carrying out investigative duties related to vote buying and selling.
“During the conduct of the NDC parliamentary primaries… one of the candidates allegedly abetted thugs to physically attack an officer of the OSP,” the notice said.
As a result, the Office has opened an additional investigation into the alleged assault of the authorised officer in the line of duty.
“Consequently, the OSP has opened further investigation into the assault of an authorised officer of the OSP in the performance of his functions,” it added.
The OSP reminded the public that corrupt practices linked to elections remain criminal offences under Ghana’s laws.
“The law prohibits corrupt acts in relation to public elections. It is a serious offence to engage in vote buying, vote selling, intimidation, threats of violence, and acts of violence,” the statement emphasised.
The OSP says it will continue to pursue all credible allegations and take appropriate legal action where evidence supports prosecution.
