The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has intensified its campaign in the Hohoe Constituency in the Volta Region towards maintaining the parliamentary seat won by John Peter Amewu in 2020.
This follows the recent inauguration of the NPP Campaign Team seeking to deplete the NDC’s votes in the Alavanyo Traditional Area, where the NDC's Parliamentary Candidate, Worlanyo Tsekpo hails from.
The Alavanyo and Hohoe Zongo communities have been key deciders in the Hohoe parliamentary elections, hence the NDC picking an indigene as a candidate renewed its hope of winning.
However, Prince Ellis Antsroe, another indigene of Alavanyo is leading a campaign machinery for the governing party in the area, to douse the hopes of the NDC.
The involvement of Mr. Antsroe in the team of John Peter Amewu was aimed at injecting a new spirit into the NPP’s campaign in the Alavanyo area.
Mr. Antsroe is attempting to draw the energy of his kinsmen and electorates towards the NPP, urging them to vote for John Peter Amewu and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for continuous development.
He earlier rescinded his decision to contest John Peter Amewu in the NPP primaries and threw his support behind the second bid of the latter.
The appointment of Francis Fiakpui as Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive is also targeted at deepening the woes of the NDC, as he originates from Alavanyo.
The appointment, which hands over the high office in the Municipality to an indigene of Alavanyo, is alleged to be orchestrated to appease the people of Alavanyo and renew their hopes for the development of the area.
The construction of a mini hydro plant, a resource center, and employment of the youth of Alavanyo among others sponsored by the NPP government is said to give the sitting MP an appealing image relative to his contender from the NDC.
John Peter Amewu defeated the NDC’s Prof. Margaret Kwaku in the 2020 general elections to end the opposition party's monopoly in the Hohoe Constituency.
He recorded a mudslide victory, which he described as a Tsunami; polling 26,952 votes against Prof Kwaku’s 21,821.
