The National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) is to monitor the performance of its beneficiaries to ensure compliance with procedures and regulations. The Wa Municipal Co-ordinator of the NYEP, Mr Imoru Mahama, warned them against acts that would undermine the aims and objectives of the programme.Addressing the closing session of a two-day workshop for 206 Pupil teachers recruited under the programme within the municipality, Mr Mahama said payment of their allowances had been regularised and a cheque for their allowances for March had been received and would be honoured next week.On requests for payment through the commercial banks, he said most of them had not opened accounts with the banks therefore it would not be prudent to deal with them selectively.Mr Mahama assured them that when the payment system improved, their request would be considered.Mr George Hikah Benson, Deputy Upper West Regional Minster advised them not to spend their allowances on frivolous things but rather use the opportunity offered to improve on their education. He said the programme was a practical demonstration of the Government's determination for the youth to contribute towards national development.Mr Mathias Nangkpeye, an Assistant Director of Education at the Wa Municipal Directorate of Education urged them "to prove the sceptics who doubt their ability to teach wrong, by performing well in the classroom."Source: GNA
