The Chief of Dawu in the South Sekyere District of the Ashanti Region has advised residents to acquire appropriate documents on their lands to avoid disputes.
Nana Kofi Frimpong Ababio said the Dawu Stool is available to resolve land matters in order to avoid future land disputes.
He bemoaned the sale of lands by individuals who claim to be landowners without the knowledge of traditional leaders.

The Chief noted that should this be unchecked, land disputes between residents will fester.
He, therefore, called on residents to be wary and approach the appropriate local authorities.
Ghana’s new Land Act, 2020 (Act 1036) introduces innovation into the country’s land management. It informs members of the public of their rights and interests in land acquisition and possession.
It also improves the security of land ownership and enhances public accountability in land administration.
The Act consolidates existing laws on land and land administration, aimed at harmonizing these laws to ensure sustainable land administration and management as well as an effective land tenure system.
Per the Act, the traditional authorities are to register all their lands with the Lands Commission before they sell out to the public.

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is convinced that multiple sale of land to different persons would be eliminated following the implementation of the new Land Act.
The Act, among others, charges traditional authorities as custodians of lands to establish Secretariats where land documentations can be kept and referred to with ease.
