Workers of the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC), as part of their May Day celebrations have engaged in an inter-department football gala competition at Kwae in the Kwaebibirem District.
The gala, which was organized by the company's management, had at stake a magnificent trophy and cash prizes.
Twelve teams participated in the competition, which was won by the Agricultural Services of the Kwae nucleus estate after they beat Technical Services One team by three goals to two on penalties.
The Managing Director of the GOPDC, Mr Werner Pirijns, presented the trophy to the winners, who incidentally won the contest last year.
In the first semi-finals match, Okumaning Nucleus Estate Agricultural Services drew two-two with Technical Services One.
Kwae Agricultural Services defeated G Four Security Services 3-2 in the second semi match.
In the preliminary matches, Technical Services Two, played goalless with G Four Security, Technical Services One beat Corporate/Finance by a lone goal, Kwae Agricultural Services also defeated Corporate/Finance by a lone goal, Technical Services Two lost to Okumaning Agricultural Services by a lone goal while Kwae Agricultural Services beat Technical Services One by a lone goal.
Kwasi Darko of the Kwae Agricultural Services scored three goals to win the goal king trophy.
Nelson Asiedu of Technical Services One was adjudged the best player of the competition.
