The Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA), has congratulated three of Ghana’s professional golfers for their encouraging performance at the just ended 2017 Mongomo Professional Golf Open Championship in Equatorial Guinea.
The three professional golfers, Vincent Torgah, the 2017 West Africa Champion from Tema Country Golf Club, Emos Korblah of Achimota Golf Club and Kojo Barnni, who won the just ended 4th edition of the Gold Fields Championship in Damaang, Tarkwa placed 15th, 16th, and 21st positions respectively.
Public Relations Officer (PRO) for PGA, Nana Prempeh, said the competition which was to run for four days, had the third day disrupted by a heavy downpour.
Vincent Torgah on the first, second and third days played 73, 73 and course par respectively making a total of 218.
Emos Korblah scored four over par in the opening day but bettered his play on the second and third days with one under and course par respectively which brought his three days to 219.
Kojo Barnni started with four over, continued with one under in day two and finished by scoring course par with 221 in total.
Nana Prempeh said PGA congratulated the trio for their performance considering the number of countries that participated and the calibre of golfers at the championship.
Peter Karmis from South Africa won the championship whereas Follet Smith from Britain claimed the second position.
He said the three-day championship, saw golfers drawn from over 34 countries from Europe, Africa and Asia and I can confidently say we are proud of the performance of the team that represented Ghana.
Meanwhile, Torgah and Barnni will move to Nigeria to participate in another championship which will tee-off on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.
Emos Korblah is expected to return to Ghana today (Tuesday) December 18, 2017.
Nana Prempeh used the opportunity to appreciate the support from the media and has encouraged them to do more in support of golf in the country.
‘’We [PGA] will like to appreciate the media for their enormous role in promoting golf in the country. The contribution has been great and fantastic. However, we will appeal to the media to do more in supporting golf in Ghana,’’ he added.
