The National Peace Council says that political parties must take responsibility for helping bridge the gap between the public and their confidence in political institutions and leaders.
According to the Council, political parties can help rebuild public trust by being transparent, acting with integrity, fostering unity, and engaging in responsible behaviour.
The Executive Secretary of the Council, George Amoh, said this during the National Dialogue on Peace Beyond Election 2024 on Saturday, September 21.
Mr Amoh said that political parties must ensure fair elections, respect democratic processes, and focus on the welfare of the people, which will, in turn, strengthen the public's faith in the political system and governance.
He added that the Electoral Commission (EC) also has a role to play in addressing these trust issues.
“The posture we put up sometimes - if your words do not go with your body language, it will create some doubts in the minds of the people,” he said.
Regarding the issue with the voters' register, Mr Amoh said that the Council has engaged both the EC and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and an agreeable solution will be found to resolve the matter.
“We are working not behind the scenes, we intend to come out latest by Monday, looking at the variables. We are on course, our leaders - we believe that they have good intentions for our country, what we need to do is to create an environment for them to help shape our country to the Ghana we all want,” he added.
