President John Evans Atta Mills has arrived on the FPSO Kwame Nrumah in readiness for the commencement of the ceremony to outdoor Ghana's crude oil.
The president arrived aboard a golden chopper at about 09:45 GMT to pour the first oil to mark the official commencement of commercial production of the country's crude oil.
The president was given a tour of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah by senior officials of Tullow Oil and had the opportunity to interact with workers of the oil processing and storage facility.
Ghana joined the league of oil producing nations after President Mills turned the valve to pump the first oil on the jubilee fields.
In an address, the president said Ghanaians must rejoice on this special day since it marks a historic event of the country.
President Mills further stated that the day should serve as a reason for all Ghanaians to work hard and not rest on our oars, adding "it means we are assuming very serious responsibilities."
The president therefore called on all appointees of his government to ensure that the oil find is a blessing to Ghanaians.
He congratulated the jubilee partners for what he describes as a good work done and pledged his government's support for their operations.
As part of the ceremony, a plaque was unveiled in honour of the president.
Meanwhile, President Mills will be addressing a durbar of chiefs and people in the Takoradi township of the Western Region where he will be joined by former presidents J.J. Rawlings and J.A. Kufour.
