The price of petroleum products is expected to increase marginally at the pumps from Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
This follows the latest outlook report by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), which guides the pricing decisions of oil marketing companies, as seen by JOYBUSINESS.
Projected Adjustments
Petrol prices are projected to be increased by up to 2.47% per litre, bringing the pump price to about GHC 14.52 per litre.
Diesel may rise between 1.36% and 3.41%, potentially selling at GHS 15.17 per litre.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) may also witness an increase of 2.01% to 4.01%.
Reasons
The rise is a result of climbing international product prices and the continued seasonal depreciation of the cedi, both of which play a major role in the projected price increases.
COMAC noted that the local currency continues to depreciate against the dollar during the period under review.
It weakened from GHS 12.07 to GHS 12.40 per dollar, a 2.74% drop, bringing total losses in the third quarter of 2025 to 15.09%, with no gains recorded.
The depreciation, the chamber says, is attributed to limited forex supply, while rising year-end imports place further pressure on the currency in Ghana’s import-dependent economy.
The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies also noted that crude oil prices “dipped, increasing by 1.57% from $67.39 to $68.45 per barrel. Brent crude is forecasted to rebound close to $70 per barrel, driven by heightened geopolitical risks and renewed supply concerns."
Some of the major oil marketing companies, including GOIL, Shell and even Market Star Oil, have all increased prices at the pumps since September 23, 2025.
Some of the oil marketing companies have told JOYBUSINESS they were forced to adjust prices due to the recent pressure on the Ghana cedi.
One is not sure for now whether some of the major oil marketing firms will go ahead and increase prices at the pumps again from this week.
