A member on the Wuaku Commission which investigated the Dagbon crisis in 2002, has expressed disappointment in the security agencies in their inability to retrieve arms and ammunitions in wrong hands in the Dagbon Traditional Area.Prof. Kwesi Yankah, who is also the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, expressed disappointment in interview with ASEMPA NEWS that six years after the Commission made this recommendation, no concrete effort has been made to retrieve arms from private hands in the area.He stated that, the lack of cooperation from witnesses invited to testify before the Commission on the circumstances that led to the killing of some forty people along with the overlord, Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II on 25th March, 2002, made it difficult for the Commission in its investigations.According to him, although the Commission recommended the prosecution of certain persons believed to be responsible for the clashes between the Andani and Abudus which resulted in the killings, the courts found no evidence to convict the suspects.Prof. Yankah regretted that the Dabgon area remains a threat to the peace in the North as the situation there is volatile and could explode at the least provocation.Story by Jerry Tsatro Mordy
