Ghana legend Rev Osei Kofi has advised Asamoah Gyan to quit the Black Stars 'honourably' as he believes the legendary striker’s time is up.
Gyan has been a member of the Black Stars since 2003 and has scored a record 51 goals.
However, he last played for the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Since the tournament, Gyan has not been invited into the team.
Last weekend, Akonnor made changes to the leadership of the team and scrapped Gyan’s general captain position. Ayew was maintained as captain, with Thomas Partey and goalkeeper Richard Ofori appointed as assistant captains.
Many believe the decision means Gyan, who is currently without a club, is not in Akonnor’s plans.
And according to the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations winner, advised Gyan should announce his retirement from the team.
“Good name is better than riches and if Gyan will listen to me, he should quit the Black Stars because he is not the Gyan we use to know.”
“I think he should honourably resign from the team to save his name,” he told Angel FM.
Gyan has been training in Ghana since his contract with Indian club NorthEast United was terminated in January.
