Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, Paramount Chief of the Techiman Traditional Area, Wednesday advised private radio stations to be circumspect in what they broadcast in order not to inflame passions. He also asked listeners to critically analyse stories broadcast by these stations before reacting to them. He particularly told a group of young men who gathered at his palace: "If you are in doubt about anything, please consult my palace". Oseadeeyo Ameyaw's address took place immediately after he and his elders had met a high-powered government delegation who were on a fact finding mission. The delegation, led by Brig. Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, National Security Adviser, held closed-door meeting with the Techimanhene to discuss the violence at Tuobodom following the alleged kidnap of Nana Baffour Asare II, a chief of the town who pays allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Oseadeeyo Ameyaw appealed to his people to eschew violence and allow the law of the country to prevail. He explained that in the era of rule of law, people who disagree on issues should settle their differences through dialogue. Oseadeeyo Ameyaw stressed the need for the nation to harness its manpower and other resources for national development instead of engaging in needless conflicts. Following his address, the aggressive youth became sober and responded to the Omanhene's speech with cheers. Brig. Nunoo-Mensah later told reporters that the delegation was in the region to investigate the Tuobodom conflict and report their findings to the President. He said of particular concern was the alleged attempted assassination on the Techimanhene in October, 2008. Brig. Nunoo-Mensah said it was prudent for everyone to allow the security agencies to do their work so that all wrong doers could be brought to justice. On the reported tension building up between the Ashantes and Brongs over the incident, Brig. Nunoo-Mensah said the situation has calmed down considerably. He also advised the media, particularly radio stations, to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to build unnecessary tension. Tuobodom is embroiled in protracted chieftaincy dispute which often results in violence. The town has two chiefs, Nana Baffour Asare who pays allegiance to the Asantehene, whilst the other, Barima Obeng Ameyaw II pays allegiance to the Techimanhene. On March 5, fighting broke out after Nana Asare was allegedly kidnapped by supporters of Oseadeeyo Ameyaw and handed over to the Police. Three people died and several others, including a policeman were injured. Nana Asare and his secretary have appeared before court on charges of abetment to commit murder. The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II vehemently protested the mode of the arrest of Nana Asare. The government delegation which earlier called on him at Manhyia has assured him that government would not shield anyone involved in criminal activities. Other members of the delegation that called on the Techimanhene included Dr Joe Oteng-Adjei, Minister of Energy, Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Johnson Asiedu Nketsia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress and Christine Amoako Nuamah, from the officer of the President.
