A sitting of legislators in Ghana’s Parliament was brought to an abrupt end after the roof of the building was ripped off by a severe rainstorm.

Some media men in the public gallery were spotted collecting the dripping rainwater into empty pet bottles.

Newly installed electronic gadgets in the chamber including microphones had water dripping unto them. 

Tuesday’s sitting was called to consider an amendment to the Local Government Bill which was brought to the House under a certificate of urgency.

First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu also used the opportunity to make his official statement on the alleged bribery allegation in which he was implicated.

He had wanted Speaker Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye to permit him to drag the Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga who made the claim to court.

But the Speaker read Standing Orders 191 which empowers Parliament to set up a special committee to investigate matters of public interest to dismiss his request.

Professor Ocquaye later upheld a motion filed by Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and supported Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu to set up a five-member High Powered Parliamentary Special Committee to investigate the matter.
