The Deputy Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Omane Boamah, says he suspects a calculated attempt by the Rawlingses to draw a wedge between Mr Ato Ahwoi and President Mills. This follows stunning revelations on Radio Gold Wednesday when a close ally to the Rawlingses, Herbert Mensah, accused Mr Ato Ahwoi, a close confidant of the President, of being the mastermind behind issues concerning the then candidate Mills’ health. According to Herbert Mensah, “it was Ato Ahwoi who actually told us that Prof. Mills wasn’t well. He said that he was becoming delusional, that he was seeing priests, he was seeing people, because he was losing his mental stability and that he has lost confidence…” But Mr Ahwoi said it was rather Herbert Mensah who on many occasions tried to convince him to do all within his power to get Prof. Mills out of the race in 2007 to give chance to Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana programme Thursday, Dr Boamah corroborated Ato Ahwoi’s assertions, adding that he [Ahwoi] had shown messages sent him by the Rawlingses to Prof Mills. The Deputy Minister told the Rawlingses to note that whether they like it or not they would have to put up with President Mills for two and a half years more. Abdul Malik Kweku Baako, Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, who was also on the programme, described as unfair the treatment being meted out on the President. He questioned the motive behind these revelations about a person who is no longer a candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but carries the image of all Ghanaians at the international level, especially in the public domain [on air]. Mr Baako cautioned President Mills to “take a critical look at his surroundings and purge himself of certain elements.” By: Dorcas Efe Mensah/myjoyonline.com/Ghana
