Some residents of Nalon, a community near Tamale have rejected a compensation package offered them by the District Assembly to vacate their houses to allow for a demolishing exercise.
The Assembly is demolishing several houses in the community to pave way for the construction of access roads.
In order to assist the affected home owners to relocate, the District Assembly is offering them bags of cement, roofing sheets and cash.
But the affected residents say they find the compensation package insufficient.
They claim the package can not afford decent accommodation and therefore want the MP for Tamale south to intervene.
Speaking to Joy News, one of the residents lamented how he was offered 500 cedis, 20 bags of cement and 4 packets of roofing sheets to relocate but had to turn the offer down because it was simply insufficient for that purpose.
Another resident also recounted how the assembly man for the area came to mark his house and offered to compensate him with three hundred cedis for the demolishing of his house.
The residents say that even though they welcome the development project, they will want the District Assembly to take a second look at the compensation package to enable them afford better accommodation to lay their heads.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for the area, Haruna Iddrissu has assured the residents that their demands will be looked into.
He however added that the road project will go on in order to meet the development agenda of the Tamale Metroplitan Asembly and to ease the burden of the people of Nalon.
