Media personality Kojo Preko Dankwa has endorsed renowned highlife singer Rex Owusu Marfo, known as Rex Omar, for nomination to the position of Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
Speaking in a conversation on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning Show regarding President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of a new creative arts minister, Mr. Dankwah, who is also the President of the Foundation of Concerned Arts Professionals (FOCAP), delineated that, considering the effort Rex Omar has put into ensuring the vibrancy of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), his experience in the creative industry, and his role in representing the sector during the NDC campaign ahead of the 2024 elections, he is the right person to assist the minister-designate, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, in managing the affairs of the ministry.
“This man travelled to 12 out of the 16 regions to really meet creatives. This man really was able to gather creatives within the areas. Even if he was doing data, I’m sure by this time he could be able to tell us the number of creatives that we have. This same man was the party’s lead when it comes to creative when they started the election; I mean for the presidential campaign team, he was the lead for the creatives. So, there was some expectation that was given to him from party level,” Mr. Dankwah explained.

Despite his expectation that Rex Omar would occupy the main position, the FOCAP president added that all hope is not lost, as he is rooting for the former GHAMRO president to be selected as the deputy minister.
He based his suggestion on how Rex Omar has effortlessly worked hard for the party’s victory in the polls, particularly within the creative arts sector.
“There was some job that was given to him from party level. So all his duties were to do that. I mean, part of the manifesto committee drew the Black Star Experience manifesto; I mean, he drank deep into it.”
Considering Rex Omar’s contribution to the creative arts manifesto policies of the NDC, Mr. Dankwah is optimistic that the singer will be a great support to the government in administering the sector.
He opined that President Mahama should appoint individuals who have been part of the conceptualization of his campaign policies to relevant offices if he truly seeks to execute his plans efficiently.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has appointed the Member of Parliament for Ketu South Constituency, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, as Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.
