Four Ghanaian artistes, Sarkodie, D-Black, E.L. and M.anifest, have been nominated for this year’s Channel O Music Video Awards slated for the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa.
Organizers announced the nominees for the 9th edition of the annual awards on Friday, August 31 and disclosed that they will award winners across 14 categories this year.
Sarkodie and D-Black were both nominated in the Most Gifted West African Video category for their Saa Okodie No and Falling videos respectively. They will however face stiff competition from Nigeria’s Wizkid, Naeto C and Wande Coal.
E.L. on the other hand has been nominated in the Most Gifted New Comer Video for his video, Turn the Lights Down and will also have to beat off competition from Toya Delazy (South Africa), Davido (Nigeria), Camp Mulla (Kenya) and Donald (South Africa).
The fourth Ghanaian, M.anifest got a nomination in the Most Gifted Hiphop Video category for his video, Makaa Maka. South African artistes, Khuli Chana, and L-Tido, Nigeria’s Ice Prince and Somalia’s K’Naan were also been nominated in the same category.
This year’s awards come off on Saturday, November 17 and amongst the keenly contested categories will be Camp Mulla’s contention for the Most Gifted Duo, Group or Featuring Video category where they are up against a powerful pack of artistes such as South Africa’s MiCasa and Liquideep as well as Zimbabwe’s Buffalo Souljah and Nigerian superstars, P Square who featured Akon and May D in their smash hit, Chop My Money.
The Channel Manager for Channel O said in statement that, “We continue to recognize and acknowledge the magnitude of African music and musicians. The nominations in this year’s awards are yet another reflection of how Channel O is celebrating African musical talent, how it keeps growing from strength to strength and how we keep striving to stay Original African.”
Other categories to be awarded on the night include, Most Gifted Male Video, Most Gifted Female Video, Most Gifted Hip Hop Video and Most Gifted Video of the Year.
