The Savelugu Police in the Northern Region has begun investigations into the abandonment of a day old baby in the area.
According to the police, the baby girl who appeared full-term was left with the umbilical cord with fresh blood all over it about 150 meters away from the Pong Tamale Senior High School girls dormitory in the Savelugu Zongo Electoral Area.
Savelugu District Police Commander, DSP Twumasi Ankra told JoyNews the police will extend its investigations beyond the community and into the school considering the proximity of where the baby was left.
He said the school authorities have also been notified to offer any information that would be useful to the case.
DSP Twumasi Ankra said the baby is currently at the Pong Tamale Health Centre and is doing well.
He added that the baby will be moved to the Savelugu Municipal Government Hospital, where better facilities take care of the baby.
He appealed to residents of Savelugu to volunteer any information that would help the police in its investigation.
